Greetings (Pura Vida) From Limited Limitless Living!

“May, the month of maybes.” ----- Unknown

It’s hard to believe that we are so close to the middle of the year and that summer in just around the corner. There are many “Maybes “of what to plan this summer before it passes us so quickly (warning--plan ahead).

One notable aspect of May is witnessing a new crop of young people graduating. These special moments highlight a generational shift serving as a reminder of one's own aging process and the passage of time. One can only hope that these young graduates can bring much needed change as they evolved into adulthoods. God knows this planet needs it.

My plans for May are quite intense as I have completed my cell stem treatment hoping it will work its way through as the cells regenerate. For now, it a wait and see situation. In the meantime, I have finalized the closing of a 2-bedroom/2-bathroom condo with a pool and parking space in the beach town of Bucerias near Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. I will be hunkering down through June getting the place fully furnished, fixed to my liking and preparing it for renting so that I can get back to my yearlong travel schedule. More on the apartment in the next two months when I hope to have a webpage on my blog.

For this month’s newsletter I have two stories to share. The first story is about my time in San Jose, Costa Rica where I stayed for two weeks before arriving in Mexico. “Pura Vida” (Pure Life), a greeting or a farewell to express the simple enjoyment of life. But more importantly, a cultural lifestyle and philosophy, a way of life that embodies a positive, relaxed attitude, enjoying the simple things, and savoring the moment. Costa Ricans certainly can teach us a thing or two (and they don’t do a bad job of governing either).

The second story is about Bucerias, the what, the why, and what next in completing this leap but mostly about what this place is like…. its bohemian lifestyle, Mexican culture, the people, coastline and street life.

This month we added a new section entitled “Things I’ve Been Exploring”. It’s amazing when you retired how much reading and surfing on the internet one can do. As I am learning and trying new things I also want to share with those who may not have the time to discover new trends.

Lastly, for this month “Stories Missed”, every year, I repost a story I wrote “Memories of My Mother’s Clothesline” to celebrate mom on Mother’s Day and as a remembrance of her. She is always part of my travels and is my best companion.

Best wishes to all of you in celebrating Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, and those special graduations among your loved ones.

As always, your help in introducing the newsletter to others is deeply appreciated. Let me know if you would like to meet or do a zoom chat. Below is my scheduling link so we can avoid the back and forth of finding a mutual convenient time. Looking forward to connecting with you soon. 💐🎓🔑🏖️

Feature Stories

Between Volcanoes and Valleys: Living San José

I stayed in the City of San Jose in Costa Rica for two weeks for a short stop on my way to Mexico. Costa Rica is renowned as a pioneer and leader in ecotourism.  The City of San Jose itself is not a big tourist attraction as most of its beaches, waterfalls, national parks and volcanos are hours away.  Get ready to move around and plan to stay in other part of the country to fully enjoy all that it offers.  A modern city, much like downtown Miami (not Miami Beach) with 90-degree weather during the day and a cooling down in the evenings. The city is known for its museums, nightlife and world known coffee.  The locals here called themselves Ticos and Ticas.  Everywhere you will come across local popular cafeterias known as “Sodas” where you can indulge in Costa Rican cuisine and enjoy some ceviche….

Culture, Coast, and Condo Keys: My Bucerías Story

Since leaving Costa Rica, I have been residing in the beach town of Bucerias, near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  This quaint and charming beach town on the Pacific Coast was once popular among divers, searching for pearls found in oysters. Hence, its name Bucerias from the Spanish verb” buscar” (to search). The town has this Bohemian vibe, combining the best of Mexican culture with that of tourism, offering an opportunity to have a deeper connection to local life, natural beauty and amazing sunsets!  I liked it so much that I decided to purchase a condo here for getaways during the winter months and as an investment.  Here‘s what convinced me to take this leap….

In Case You Missed It

My PhotoGrAphy of the Month

Part of the joy of travel is my passion for photography seeking to capture the daily lives of the people and the places that I visit. We will post monthly our favorites. If interested in any of our photos, visit the Photo Print Gallery, Click Here.

Sparkles of Water

Water is an essential part of life. Beyond drinking it, there is something magical about how it sparkles in the sun, as captured in this photo. Did you know that over 60% of our body weight is water? But here is the real kicker. It is estimated that the World may run out of fresh water by 2040. A global crisis where already 2.2 billion people do not have access to drinking water.

Today's Thought and Inspiration⛅

As we entered the month of May, there are many of us (or most of us) who feel a sense of helplessness over what the first hundred days of the year has turned into. The sense of fear, disappointment and anger that outweighs what is generally a month of celebrations, graduations, festivals, and warm weather. Regardless, let us move forward and hold on to our dreams. Who better than Langston Hughes to remind us of deferred dreams as he so truthfully stated in his poem, “Harlem” written in 1951.

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up

like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore—

And then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?

Or crust and sugar over—

like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags

like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

- Langston Hughes

Things I'm Exploring

From time to time, one come across something that is extraordinary and worthy of sharing with others. Check it out and share with others.

The Eagle Huntress documentary follows Aisholpan, a 13-year-old Kazakh girl training to become the first female in twelve generations of her family to become an eagle hunter. Breaking with a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries (watch the trailer here). Amazing girl power!

Exploring Your Wanderlust

Thinking about planning a trip to New York City between April 19 – June 17?

Best part, for the month of May (near midnight) at 11:57 PM all the Times Square billboards will have a stop-motion animation show orchestrated by the artist. A great time to visit the city!

Thomas J Price’s Grounded in the Stars will be on view in Times Square at Broadway and 46th Street, April 29–June 17. The animated show will be shown nightly May 1–31.

“The name April stems from the Latin word “aperire”, which means to open… the opening of new opportunities along with the changing blossoming of nature. Let there be Spring! “---- Grizel Ubarry In these unsure times, it’s always good to find inspiration in the changing seasons …what better than Spring. I like to believe that there are always new chapters for us to start as we age and become wiser. For now, my advice is to turn off the noise and focus on what is best for you. At the moment, I...

“It’s never too late to be what you want to be, unless you want to be younger” ... Anonymous Well, while this is very true, having a youthful mindset and outlook on life has no age limit (I’ll take that any day). This month, I will turn 72 and my blog will enter its fifth-year anniversary. Together, we plan to celebrate another year exploring life while being purposeful. Health continues to be on top of my priority list as I continue to be challenged. One thing I’ve learned, getting old,...
